Funding For New Centre for Excellence At Middlesex University

Middlesex University has been awarded £2.5m from the Higher Education Funding Council for England for the creation of a National Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning    (CEWBL) for Work Based Learning.
The money will be used to extend Work Based Learning practice throughout the University and embed elements of existing excellent practice within other University programmes. Knowledge creating partnerships between the University and external partners will also be further developed and supported. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ken Goulding, says, “The CETL will have a major impact on the learning experiences of our students. We will be able to use the funds to invest in staff, buildings and equipment to support and enhance successful learning in new and challenging ways.”

The Centre for Excellence in Work Based Learning(CEWBL) is one of 74 Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning awarded to Universities in England by the the Higher Education Council for England HEFCE in 2005.  The CEWBL will be at the leading edge of developing and rewarding teaching and learning which is directly related to the demands of knowledge-driven economies. The CEWBL builds upon the work of the Middlesex University Institute for Work Based Learning (IWBL) and WBL and  Accreditation Unit (WBLAU) of the School of Health and Social Sciences.  It aims to maximise the impact of excellence practice in Work Based Learning within Middlesex University and to provide a catalyst for dissemination of good practice with other Centres for Excellence and the Higher Education Academy.

International Centre for the Study of Coaching

The International Centre for the Study of Coaching has been established at Middlesex University by a partnership of the Professional Development Foundation, I-Coach and the University. The Centre has already been very successful in attracting candidates for the innovative Middlesex Professional Doctorate (DProf) who wish to focus on coaching.

This is excellent news and demonstrates how the programme has built upon the excellent UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) report on the institutional audit of Middlesex University (see the QAA website on http://www.qaa.ac.uk/) which commended Work Based Learning.
